Myostatin

$10.00

Myostatin (MSTN) negatively regulates muscles growth and mutations in the MSTN gene often result in double-muscle phenotypes. Mutations in MSTN are significantly associated with racing ability in dogs and horses. A mutation in the the pigeon MSTN gene (C to T) was found to be over-represented in utility pigeon breeds (large-muscled), but also occurs in racing pigeons. Further studies are required to determine if and how this mutation contributes to racing performance in pigeons.

Further information about this mutation can be found here: Myostatin

This test reports on the myostatin alleles present with possible outcomes of C/C, C/T and T/T.

Sample requirements: please provide one feather approximately 2 inches long (the same feather can be used for multiple tests).

Results are typically available within 3 weeks.
